Non-League Night Orienteering Event - UNPA, Nicosia Monday 16 December 2013 PDF Print E-mail
Location: Registration, start and finish will take place at the UN Police Club, (UNPOL Club) UNPA.
 
Timings: Registration will be available from 1730 hrs and the course will be open from 1800 hrs. Last start will be at 1900 hrs and the course will close at 2030 hrs.
 
Travel: Come off the Limassol-Nicosia highway at the first exit after the big stadium on the left of the highway. Take the first exit towards Troodos and stay on that road over several lights and roundabouts to a T-junction with a big church on your right. Turn right here and go along till you see Nicosia University on your right just after some lights. Take the next turning left which is on a bend to the right. This will take you to the main UNPA gate (Foxtrot Gate). Military ID cards or gate pass required. (Please note that the Western entrance at Morphou Gate is closed after dark). From Foxtrot Gate follow the road in and take the turning left by the Astra kiosk, which is after the Military Police Station. Then turn immediately left again and the UNPOL Club is along on the right.

Courses: Two courses will be available:
 
A Course - A technically difficult course (TD5) of approximately 5 kms.
 
B Course  - A less difficult course (TD3) of approximately 3.5 kms for novices.
 
Terrain: Good runnable ground consisting of undulating, open bondu with small steep ridges and re-entrants, criss-crossed with numerous roads, tracks and paths. There are several small OOB areas which will be marked on the maps. Please note that there are some small, unmarked patches of barbed wire out on the ground. These are less visible after dark and torchlight should be used when running to avoid injury.
 
Map: The 1:10,000 ‘UNPA’ Map updated October 2012. Maps will be pre-marked. Loose control descriptions will be available. Sample of map is below which shows the location of the UNPOL Club.      
 
 
Equipment: Runners are to provide their own torch, compass and whistle. Full leg coverage is recommended but not compulsory.  Suitable head torches can be bought from GET OUT Stores. Contact details on their web site:  www.onestepfurther.com.cy
 
Facilities: There are toilets blocks located at the UNPOL Club.  The UNPOL Bar will be open and refreshments may be purchased over the bar.
 
PRIZES!!! “GET OUT” have generously offered us some prizes! There will be rosettes for all under 18s who complete a course too!
